Meet the Host
My name is Jeff Dyson and I am the host and creator of the Internet Marketing Radio Show.
Each week I interview experts in different areas of marketing to help you grow your business online. My goal is to provide high quality content in all areas of online marketing for you on one site.
People are always asking me “How do I get started in internet marketing?”
Here’s my advice for what it’s worth:
1. Stop EVERYTHING you are doing to chase the dollar and look at what you are truly good at doing.
Meaning what is your natural gift or talent that you have a true passion for and would do every day even if you were making zero or a million dollars at it? It’s important to get this right because in the beginning you will be making zero but working on passion. When your business explodes you don’t want the influx of money get in the way of your passion or vision.
2. Start living life the way you would when you think you’ve “made it”.
When I “made it” I said that I would not work as much and spend time with my family doing fun things. Unfortunately, it seemed like I was constantly working to “make it” and never spending any time with my family. It finally hit me when my 4 year-old son said “Dad, can you turn off the computer for a while and come play with me?” It was at that exact moment that I said “it’s time to say I’ve made it” and I started enjoying life with my family. I’ve learned to only work in the evenings when the kids have gone to bed and made that time VERY productive. It’s also taught me to live on what I have and be happy with what God has given me. Not constantly reaching for the next “dream” and spending money on useless “internet tools” that never seem to work out like they say.
3. Turn your passion into something that can make you extra money and understand that it takes time to be successful.
Perhaps it’s writing a book or starting a class. Perhaps it’s being a coach or a mentor to others. Whatever it is you need to own it and understand that it will take time to be successful … everything does. Just remember that you are always planting seeds. As those seeds grow you need to be there to water them, care for them, then harvest them when they are ready. Most internet entrepreneurs plant seeds then walk away because they don’t see the fully grown corn stalk by the end of the week. Remember, it takes time for the seeds to grow but it doesn’t matter how long it takes because you are consistently doing something you are passionate about and love.
I believe being successful is much bigger than only making an extra few thousand dollars a month. So I would challenge you start living RIGHT NOW as if you’ve “made it” and watch how you life starts to come together.
I would also encourage you to email a close friend what you are truly passionate about and what you feel is your spiritual gift. Partly because I want you to think about it but also because it makes it more real when you put it down in words and tell another person who holds you accountable. Don’t think you have to do this right away or in the next hour. It took me a few days to really sift through what was important to me in my life and then write it down on paper. All I ask is that you do it when you are ready.
Following these three simple steps has made a world of difference in my life and I believe it can do the same for you. Once you know your passion, have your vision, and put your priorities in order there’s no way you cannot be successful.
